Guyana Names Team for 51st Carifta Games

Guyana has announced its team of 23 athletes and officials for the 51st Carifta Track and Field championship, scheduled to take place at the Kirani James Stadium in Grenada from March 30th to April 1st.

The team comprises both under 17 and under 20 athletes, with Tianna Springer, a Commonwealth and CARIFTA gold medalist, leading the pack.

Springer will compete in the Under 20 200m, 400m, 4x400m women’s relay, and 4x400m mixed relay events.

Joining her is Attoya Harvey, another CARIFTA gold medalist, who will participate in the 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 4x400m women’s relay, and 4x400m mixed relay.

Other notable athletes include Jaheel Cornette, set for the 100m and 200m races, and Charissa December, who will compete in the 400m hurdles and 4x400m relay.

The under-17 category features promising talents such as Athaleyha Hinckson, Duel Europe, Skylar Charles, Kaidon Persaud, Ezikeil Millinton, Esther Mckinnon, Ryan Joseph, Akilla Blucher, Keneta Fraser, Marissa Thomas, and Nathaniel Samaroo.

Thelson Williams will manage the team, supported by physiotherapist Akeem Stewart and coaches Wayne Pantlitz and Trishel Thompson.

AAG Chairman of Selection, Keith Campbell, expressed satisfaction with the timing and selection process, highlighting the careful consideration given to forming the team.

Guyana’s participation in the Carifta Games underscores its commitment to developing and showcasing athletic talent on the regional stage.

The selected athletes are poised to represent the country with pride and compete fiercely for top honors in their respective events.
