Shemaine Campbell has been appointed as the captain of the Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB) Women’s side for the upcoming regional 50-overs and T20 senior tournaments.
The GCB has announced a squad of 14 players for both formats, with Campbell leading the team and Cherry-Ann Fraser serving as her vice-captain.
The squad comprises talented players including Mandy Mangru, Realeanna Grimmond, Naomi Barkoye, and others.
In a recent Women’s T20 inter-county tournament, Demerara emerged victorious under the leadership of captain Ann-Fraser.
Fraser’s exceptional performance, which included taking four wickets for just nine runs, played a pivotal role in Demerara’s success.
She received support from teammates Nadia Andrews, Niya Latchman, Kaycia Schultz, and Litesha Jordan.
After the match, Cherry-Ann Fraser expressed satisfaction with her team’s hunger for success and credited their positive attitude and hard work for the victory.
Meanwhile, winning coach Clive Grimmond expressed optimism about the team’s performance in the upcoming regional tournament.
He emphasized the importance of improving their batting skills to put up competitive scores and highlighted the team’s strong bowling unit.
The regional tournament is scheduled to commence on March 2 in St. Kitts, where the GCB Women’s team will aim to showcase their talent and compete at the highest level.
