Corentyne Man Remanded for Double Murder

By Royan Abrams

In a tragic turn of events, a 32-year-old cane harvester from Ulverston on the Corentyne, Devon Stanley, appeared before the Mibicuri Magistrate’s Court, facing charges of two counts of murder.

Devon Stanley was brought before Magistrate Peter Hugh to answer for the alleged murder of 40-year-old Kwesi LaRose and 52-year-old Floyd Moore, both residents of Alness Village on the Corentyne.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred between the second and third of February at Alness Village.

During the court proceedings, Stanley was not required to enter a plea due to the nature of the charges being indictable offenses.

Consequently, he was remanded in custody until February 22, with the matter transferred to the Whim Magistrates Court for further proceedings.

Yashoda Simmons Ross, sister of Kwesi LaRose, recounted the tragic events that led to the loss of her brother’s life.

According to Ross, a fight ensued between Floyd Moore, who allegedly shared a relationship with the same woman as the suspect, and Devon Stanley.

Despite her brother’s attempts to de-escalate the situation, he too fell victim to the armed suspect’s attack.

The aftermath of the altercation left both victims, LaRose and Moore, fatally wounded.

A postmortem examination revealed that they succumbed to shock and hemorrhage due to incise wounds.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving families mourning the loss of their loved ones and seeking justice for the senseless violence that occurred.
