Construction of Mackenzie-Wismar Bridge to Commence in April, Generating 500 Jobs

The construction of the new Mackenzie-Wismar Bridge across the Demerara River in Wismar, Linden, Region Ten, is set to begin in April, creating job opportunities for over 500 individuals.

The project, undertaken in four phases, aims to enhance connectivity, alleviate traffic congestion, and promote trade between Guyana and Brazil.

Dwight John, the Regional Executive Officer for Region 10, announced that the recruitment process for qualified individuals will commence soon.

Over 700 people have already applied for various positions, including drivers, carpenters, safety officers, HR managers, admin assistants, and heavy-duty operators.

The new bridge, spanning 220 meters, will feature road safety and lighting enhancements.

The $35 million project, contracted to China Railway Construction, is expected to boost economic development in the region and contribute to improved transportation infrastructure.

The Mackenzie-Wismar Bridge project aligns with the government’s commitment to advancing regional development, connectivity, and trade facilitation, marking a significant step toward achieving these objectives.
