Hitman Sancho Emerges as Top Boxer in GBA Elite Development Championship

Over the weekend, the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) staged its senior developmental boxing championship at the National Gymnasium. Notable boxers, including Olympian Kevin Allicock, Emmanuel Sancho, and Emmanuel Pompey, recorded victories during the event as they seek qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic qualifiers.

Emmanuel Sancho of the Police force was awarded the title of the best boxer after securing a round 2 stoppage of Ronnel Captain in the welterweight category.

Sancho dominated the welterweight bout, and the referee stopped the contest 1 minute 36 seconds into the second round, declaring Sancho the winner.

In other finals, Emmanuel Pompey defeated Troy Glasgow in the 92+ kg super heavyweight bout, marking Glasgow’s first loss.

Hullman Bovell of the Police Gym won the cruiserweight contest against Quincie Boyce.

Clifton Graham of the Police Gym claimed the light middleweight title with a points decision over Mark Crawford of the Forgotten Youth Foundation.

Olympian Kevin Allicock faced a tough challenge from gym mate Septon Barton in the lightweight contest but managed to secure a points decision win.

The minimum weight class saw GDF’s Ronaldo Sutton take a points decision win over FYF’s Richard Subratee.

In the bantamweight class, Julian Clarke of the Police Gym defeated Kevin Isaacs.

Raheem Peters of Rose Hall Jammers was named the best boxer in the youth category after overcoming gym mate Morlando Cameron in their 61kg bout.

Daniel Dehnert of Linden took a walkover win over Jahshawn Williamson.

The GBA championship showcased the talent and determination of these boxers as they aim for success in the Paris 2024 Olympic qualifiers.
