West Indies Stumble but DaSilva and Hodge Lead Recovery in Second Test Against Australia

On day one of the second test match against Australia, the West Indies faced a top-order collapse, but resilient performances from Joshua DaSilva and Kavem Hodge rescued the innings, putting the team in a promising position at stumps.

After opting to bat, the West Indies found themselves struggling at 64 for 5, with Kraigg Brathwaite, Tagnarine Chanderpaul, Kirk Mackenzie, and Alick Athanaze falling cheaply.

However, DaSilva and Hodge formed a crucial partnership of 149 runs, stabilizing the innings.

DaSilva contributed 79 before being dismissed at 213, while Hodge made a valuable 71.

Alzarri Joseph further contributed with a brisk 32, featuring seven fours, taking the team to 266 for 8 at the close of play.

Kevin Sinclair is at the crease on 16, with Kemar Roach and Shamar Joseph yet to bat.

Mitchell Starc led Australia’s bowling attack with figures of 4 for 68, supported by Josh Hazelwood, Pat Cummins, and Nathan Lyon, who each took a wicket.

The second day of the day-night test at the Gabba in Brisbane is set to resume at 12 am local time.

The West Indies will be looking to build on their recovery and post a competitive total against the host nation.
