Government Chief Whip Gail Teixeira addressed the opposition’s criticism of Budget 2024, stating that there are fundamental philosophical differences between the coalition and the PPP/C.
In her 34th budget debate, Teixeira criticized the PNC-led opposition, describing them as irresponsible, reckless, and lacking substance.
Teixeira expressed strong support for Budget 2024, describing it as a tangible expression of hope, pride, and dignity for all Guyanese.
She accused critics of being blind to the positive changes occurring in every community and in denial of Guyana’s rapid transformation.
According to Teixeira, the opposition fails to understand how the PPP/C government has achieved so much in three years.
She accused the opposition of refusing to be part of the country’s transformation process and instead undermining it at every turn.
Highlighting the coalition’s five years in office, Teixeira claimed that they spent 1.4 trillion dollars with nothing substantial to show for it.
She asserted that the people support the government’s budget and want more.
Teixeira dismissed the opposition’s proposals as myopic and small-minded, lacking the capacity for sustainable development.
She emphasized that Budget 2024 represents a tangible expression of hope and optimism for the future.
Teixeira stated that Guyana cannot slow down its economic transformation efforts until its people enjoy a better standard of living.
