The Guyanese government continues its commitment to the GOAL scholarship program, with an allocation of four billion dollars to support an additional six thousand students.
Outgoing Minister of Public Service, Sonia Parag, highlighted the significance of investing in Guyana’s human resources as a crucial foundation for the country’s transformation.
Initially launched when the PPP returned to office, the GOAL scholarship program aimed to provide 20,000 online scholarships within five years.
However, this target was surpassed in just three years, benefiting over 21,000 individuals.
In a recent analysis of Budget 2024, Minister Parag expressed her satisfaction with the increased allocation for GOAL scholarships.
The new goal is to provide over 30,000 scholarships over the next five years, reflecting the government’s ongoing commitment to education.
Alongside the focus on scholarships, Minister Parag emphasized the government’s dedication to investing in the training of public servants.
Recognizing the importance of continuous training for the workforce, she stated that it is crucial for shaping the future.
The allocated four billion dollars for GOAL will support 6,000 new students and 3,967 continuing students.
Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh highlighted that GOAL will introduce 160 new programs, covering general and vocational education, as well as bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
