As the Guyanese government unveiled its ambitious 1.146 trillion-dollar budget for the year 2024, citizens across the country have expressed overwhelming support for the financial measures outlined.
Delicia Janneire, reporting for NCN News, gathered the opinions of various individuals, capturing a prevailing sense of optimism regarding the budget.
Many citizens expressed their satisfaction with the significant funds earmarked for the education sector, particularly praising the allocation of nine billion dollars for the Because We Care and uniform cash grants.
Another aspect of the budget that resonated well with the public was the increase in the income tax threshold to 100 thousand dollars.
Among those interviewed, Simon Bowen articulated his positive outlook: “I think that the government is heading in the right perspective once they hold on to their promises and not just the talk. I think it can work for the benefit of all Guyanese people.”
An anonymous citizen echoed the sentiment, stating, “It is a wonderful budget; it has been crafted by a man with a vision. The school children grant, the pension, it is all going up. It’s not one thing; it’s all around the field. The budget caters for everybody.”
Paul Allen conveyed his appreciation, noting, “The government is doing a great job with progressing the country, and I feel the country should be appreciative.”
Andrew Boyle emphasized the need for inclusive economic policies, saying, “Everything is good and I enjoy it, but I need to see funds filtering down to the small man.”
Olatorera Lanferman expressed her contentment with specific measures, stating, “The 100,000, I’m so happy for it that it is tax-free, you understand. At least it could put something more on my table and help out with my bills.”
