The Linden Mayor and Town Council are contemplating the introduction of permits for residents engaged in livestock rearing in residential areas.
Councilor Ryan Richards raised concerns about the increase in livestock rearing and suggested that permits would help monitor the sanitary conditions of such operations.
During a recent statutory meeting, Councilor Richards emphasized the need for the town’s environmental department to become more active in inspecting residential properties involved in large-scale livestock rearing.
He highlighted the importance of monitoring these activities, especially if by-products are supplied to the local market.
Richards expressed the belief that permits would contribute to maintaining standards and prioritizing cleanliness.
The Councilor also addressed the reluctance of some residents to file complaints due to fear of repercussions from those involved in livestock rearing.
Town Clerk Lennox Gasper informed the council that the existing land agreements do not permit extensive livestock rearing in residential areas.
Councilor Richards proposed collaboration between the town’s Environmental Department and the Regional department for more effective monitoring and better results.
