Budget 2024 to Surpass Manifesto Promises- General Secretary Jagdeo

In an announcement ahead of Budget 2024, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, the General Secretary of the ruling People’s Progressive Party (PPP), revealed that the government aims to exceed its manifesto commitments to enhance the welfare of all citizens.

The budget is anticipated to prioritize various key sectors, aligning with the government’s ongoing efforts to foster wealth accumulation and improved welfare for the populace.

Dr. Jagdeo emphasized that Budget 2024 would concentrate on supporting industries and enhancing social infrastructure, reflecting the government’s commitment to a progressive and inclusive approach to economic development.

The announcement came during a press conference held on January 11, where Dr. Jagdeo outlined the government’s vision for the upcoming budget.

During the press conference, Dr. Jagdeo highlighted the budget’s focus on key sectors, pointing out the government’s dedication to social infrastructure development within communities.

He expressed confidence that the budget would continue the trajectory of positive annual growth and welfare enhancement that the government has pursued since returning to office.

Furthermore, Budget 2024 is set to extend substantial support to vulnerable groups, particularly women, children, and the elderly.

Dr. Jagdeo revealed that specific initiatives targeting these groups would be incorporated into the budget, with a particular emphasis on job creation and the overall expansion of opportunities.

Dr. Jagdeo acknowledged the government’s fulfillment of most of its manifesto promises to date.

However, he emphasized that Budget 2024 would surpass the commitments made in the party’s 2020 manifesto, indicating a forward-looking and ambitious agenda for the upcoming fiscal year.

As the government aims to address the diverse needs of the population, Budget 2024 is expected to play a crucial role in advancing national development, fostering inclusivity, and improving the overall well-being of Guyanese citizens.
