President Dr. Irfaan Ali has announced the development of a new National Security Architecture in Guyana, aiming to foster a culture of safe living in the country.
During the sod-turning ceremony for the Brickdam Police Station, President Ali emphasized the need for proactive and intelligent policing, shifting the focus from crime fighting to crime prevention.
To bring about this change, the government plans to invest in various branches of law enforcement while creating a more integrated joint service.
The president outlined plans for the establishment of a marine division within the Guyana Police Force, emphasizing the importance of enhancing security along the country’s waterways.
President Ali also revealed plans for a new headquarters for the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU), including a regional integrated system to strengthen the agency’s functions across different regions of Guyana and beyond its borders.
The new security architecture initiative extends to the Guyana Fire Service, which will receive technologically advanced equipment and additional resources.
The president expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of the fire service and outlined plans to build capacity in every Neighborhood Democratic Council (NDC), introducing mobile firefighting units and training volunteer fire brigades in each community.
This comprehensive approach aims to transform the security landscape in Guyana, emphasizing prevention, integration, and technological advancements.
