The Guyanese government has officially initiated the construction of the new Brickdam Police Station with a groundbreaking ceremony.
The 12-storey edifice, estimated at 28.1 million US dollars, is a collaborative project between R Bassoo and Sons Consulting Company and a Kwang Jain Group company from China.
The construction is expected to be completed within 30 months.
The new facility, described as a symbol of renewal and strength, will feature a state-of-the-art design with enhanced functionality and modern amenities for police officers.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Andre Ally, highlighted that the building is designed to accommodate around two thousand people and will house essential departments such as traffic, finance, the impact base, CID, among others.
Contractor Roy Bassoo expressed commitment to delivering the completed station ahead of schedule without disrupting the operations of the Brickdam Police Station.
The construction is expected to be earthquake-resistant and equipped with advanced features, including a fire detection system, CCTV monitoring, telephone and data network, dual elevators, and staircases.
The reconstruction of the Brickdam Police Station comes two years after a malicious fire destroyed the previous station.
The new project aims to provide a modern and secure facility for law enforcement operations.
