Guyana’s Ministry of Labour Initiates Household Safety Program

The Ministry of Labour in Guyana is set to launch a program focused on addressing safety concerns within households across the country.

Minister Joseph Hamilton emphasized the need to engage citizens regarding potential hazards within their homes.

During a press conference, Minister Hamilton highlighted the importance of educating individuals about safer approaches to household activities, particularly during construction or renovations.

He cited examples of potential hazards, such as leaving a gas bomb unattended in the kitchen, and stressed the need for awareness and preventive measures.

The upcoming program is a collaborative effort between technical experts from various sectors, including both public and private entities.

Minister Hamilton mentioned that the Ministry plans to work alongside the fire service and engage stakeholders in promoting residential safety.

The National Advisory Council on Occupational Health and Safety (NACOS) will lead the initiative.

The Ministry’s proactive approach to address residential safety concerns aims to mitigate potential hazards within households, ensuring the well-being of citizens and preventing accidents.
