Scheduled for Sunday, August 11, the One Guyana Cup, Guyana’s foremost one-day horse racing extravaganza, is poised to captivate spectators at the Rising Sun Turf Club on the West Coast of Berbice.
Organized by the Jumbo Jet Through-Bred Horse Racing Committee, this annual event serves as the curtain-raiser for the much-awaited Guyana Cricket Carnival Season.
Last year’s One Guyana Cup witnessed ‘Easy Time’ from the Jumbo Jet Racing Stable securing victory and claiming a substantial prize of 4.6 million dollars in the feature event.
The event’s total prize pool amounted to an impressive 30 million dollars.
Anticipation is building for the 2024 edition, which is set to feature 12 races across three renowned venues: the Rising Sun Turf Club (RSTC), Port Mourant Turf Club, and Kennard Memorial Turf Club in Bush Lot Corentyne, Berbice.
Commencing on January 28 at the Rising Sun Turf Club, the horse racing season for 2024 will unfold with subsequent events on February 25, March 17, March 31, May 26, and July 1 at different locations.
The highlight of the racing calendar, the Guyana Cup, is scheduled for August 11 at the Rising Sun Turf Club.
Post the Guyana Cup, the President’s Cup meeting will be hosted at the Rising Sun Turf Club on September 29.
The racing calendar will further include events such as the Fizal Habibola at the Rising Sun Turf Club on October 30, races at Port Mourant on November 24, and the annual Boxing Day meet at a venue yet to be announced.
Renowned for drawing horse racing enthusiasts and participants from across the region, the One Guyana Cup stands as a prominent and eagerly anticipated event in Guyana’s sports calendar.
