President Ali and President Maduro to Meet in Brazil in Q1 2024

President Irfaan Ali has announced that a meeting between him and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro is scheduled to take place in Brazil during the first quarter of this year.

The details of the meeting will be worked out by representatives from both Guyana and Venezuela.

The two leaders previously met in December in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, where an agreement was reached to avoid escalating any conflicts.

As part of this understanding, they agreed to reconvene in Brazil within three months.

President Ali emphasized the importance of dialogue in promoting peace and stability in the region.

Technical teams are expected to formulate the framework for the upcoming engagement.

President Ali expressed Guyana’s commitment to peaceful dialogue amid heightened tensions surrounding the Guyana/Venezuela border controversy.

The focus on developing the defense sector is part of Guyana’s strategy for ensuring security, with plans to increase spending in this area during the year.

President Ali clarified that Guyana’s intentions are purely defensive, emphasizing that the country has no plans for aggressive actions or attacks.

The upcoming meeting in Brazil signifies a continued effort to address and manage regional concerns through diplomatic channels.
