Slingerz and Monedderlust Secure Spots in Elite League Promotional Playoff Final

Slingerz FC and Monedderlust FC have advanced to the final of the Guyana Football Federation Elite League Promotional Playoff, earning an opportunity to compete for a spot in the KFC Elite League Season 6 next year.

The semi-final matches took place at the Police Sport Club Ground, Eve Leary.

In the first encounter, Slingerz FC, often recognized as a side deserving of Elite League ranks, secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Linden’s Winner’s Connection.

Simeon Moore initiated the scoring in the 26th minute, registering the first goal for Slingerz.

Moore continued his stellar performance, securing a brace just before halftime, leading his team to a 2-0 advantage.

Brian Wharton sealed the victory with a goal in injury time, resulting in a 3-0 aggregate.

While Head Coach Charles Pollard expressed gratitude for the win, he acknowledged that the victory was untidy and did not reflect the team’s skill level.

Pollard emphasized his vision for the team’s playing style, aiming for excellence regardless of the competition level.

In the second semi-final, Monedderlust FC faced drama from the onset, as a decision error by Beacon’s goalkeeper led to a red card for handling the ball outside the area.

Despite the setback, veteran forward Anthony Abrams gave Georgetown Beacons the lead in the 33rd minute.

Beacons, however, faced challenges with a reduced squad and a part-time goalkeeper.

Monedderlust FC capitalized on the situation, with Kevin Cottoy leveling the scores and Dominic Nelsen adding another for Beacon at halftime.

In the second half, Monedderlust FC secured goals from Terrence Lewis and Teron Delph in the 53rd and 83rd minutes, securing a narrow 3-2 victory and advancing to the final.

The competition is set to conclude on January 6th at the Eve Leary Ground.
