The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) has officially confirmed that the tragic fire that occurred on Christmas morning in Amelia’s Ward, claiming the lives of three individuals, was maliciously set.

Authorities are actively investigating the incident to identify and apprehend those responsible for the deliberate act.

Guy Nurse, the Commander of Division Ten, shared with NCN that the investigation is currently in progress.

While specific details were not disclosed, it was emphasized that the Guyana Police Force is diligently working to determine the person or persons behind the intentional setting of the fire.

The Guyana Fire Service responded to the fire call at approximately 02:05 hrs on Christmas Day and successfully contained the blaze to the ground floor of the building.

Unfortunately, the lives of thirty-year-old nurse Zoella Lawrence Bailey and her two nieces, 16-year-old Angelique Lawrence, and 8-year-old Ronika, were tragically lost in the incident.

Government pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh conducted post-mortem examinations, revealing that all three victims succumbed to smoke inhalation.
