New Housing Developments Planned for Region Six

The Ministry of Housing and Water in Guyana is set to open a new housing scheme in Moleson Creek, Corentyne, Berbice, as part of the government’s ambitious target to allocate 50,000 house lots by 2025.

Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, shared with the media in Berbice that over 29,000 allocations have already been made across the country.

However, there is still a demand for housing in the Upper Corentyne and New Amsterdam areas.

To address this, plans are underway to open a new housing scheme at Moleson Creek on the Corentyne, where the construction of the Corentyne River Bridge will connect Guyana with Suriname.

Minister Croal explained that the decision to establish new housing schemes is influenced by the demand in specific areas.

For instance, the Fort Ordinance housing scheme experienced high demand due to its proximity to New Amsterdam, the business community, and regional government services.

The Ministry aims to meet this demand by acquiring additional lands and developing new housing schemes, with Moleson Creek being one of the priority locations.

Addressing another housing development project, Minister Croal mentioned that the construction of homes for young professionals in Palmyra is set to commence soon.

Infrastructural works are already in progress to facilitate the construction of 100 homes in the initial phase.

Additionally, the Central Housing and Planning Authority has completed the construction of 200 low-income homes, with 100 located in Hampshire and another 100 in Fort Ordinance.

These homes have already been allocated to beneficiaries.

The Ministry of Housing and Water’s initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to meeting the housing needs of the population and promoting sustainable development.
