Guyana Basketball Federation Focuses on Preparation for CBC Championship

The Guyana Basketball Federation (GBF) is putting considerable effort into preparing the national men’s team for the upcoming Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Championship in 2024.

The President of the Guyana Basketball Federation, Michael Singh, shared details on their dedicated approach to ensure the team’s readiness for the tournament.

Seeking to replicate the success of the historic 2018 senior men’s team, which ended a three-decade-long drought at the tournament, President Michael Singh emphasized that the federation is leaving no stone unturned in providing the necessary preparations for the team.

Singh highlighted the significance of retaining the CBC title as a top priority for the GBF, aiming to qualify for the FIBA AmeriCup in 2025.

Earlier this month, the GBF selected a team to compete in an international friendly against neighboring Suriname as part of their tournament preparations.

The Guyanese unit secured a victory, defeating their Dutch counterparts 77-62, with Shen Webster delivering a standout 21-point performance.

Looking ahead to the CBC Championship scheduled for July 2024, Singh mentioned that the GBF plans to have the team in a training camp a few months prior to the event.

The specifics regarding the selection of the team for the championship have not yet been identified.

The GBF’s commitment to meticulous preparations reflects its dedication to achieving success on the regional basketball stage.
