Attorney General Nandlall Asserts Conclusive Decision on 2020 Elections

Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall, has declared the legal system’s conclusive pronouncement on the results of the 2020 general and regional elections in Guyana.

This follows the recent ruling by the Court of Appeal on Election Petition case 88 of 2020. The Attorney General elaborated on this in an interview with NCN.

In response to the Court of Appeal’s decision, Nandlall emphasized that it definitively lays to rest any doubts surrounding the legality of the 2020 election recount.

He recalled the promises made by the APNU/AFC, assuring their supporters that election petitions would lead to the removal of the then-government.

However, both petitions were dismissed within six months.

Nandlall noted that, faced with the failure of various strategies, the opposition resorted to formulating theories and allegations of irregularities. Subsequently, they reluctantly agreed to a ballot recount.

When this did not yield the desired outcome, they proceeded to file petitions.

Despite potential future actions by the opposition, Nandlall expressed hope that the court’s decision would put an end to false narratives surrounding the 2020 elections.

He emphasized the importance of acknowledging the legal processes and decisions in this matter.

The Attorney General’s statements underscore the significance of the Court of Appeal’s ruling in providing a conclusive resolution to the legal challenges related to the 2020 elections in Guyana.
