Cheddi Jagan International Airport to Host Santa Parade and Christmas Village

In a heartwarming tradition that has spanned thirteen years, the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) is set to host its annual Santa Parade and Christmas Village on Tuesday, December 19.

This year, the event takes on added significance as it pays tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of the five fallen servicemen, including the late Lieutenant Colonel Michael Charles.

The parade, a cherished community event, will include a special moment of reflection dedicated to the memory of the servicemen.

Shunza Samuels-Massiah, the Public Relations Officer of CJIA, expressed the airport’s decision to honor the fallen heroes, noting that Lt. Col Michael Charles, a native of the Soesdyke area, had close ties with CJIA.

The Santa Parade, while somber in remembrance, will be a beacon of Christmas joy for the children in the Soesdyke area.

The airport plans to distribute gifts to around 5000 children from neighboring communities as part of the annual celebration.

Samuels-Massiah highlighted the community’s anticipation for this annual event, emphasizing that it has been a tradition since 2010.

Over the years, the Santa Parade has grown from a small gathering to a significant community celebration, spreading joy and festive spirit.

This year’s Santa Parade serves not only as a celebration of the holiday season but also as a touching reminder of the sacrifices made by servicemen and women.

It reflects the community’s commitment to coming together in times of reflection and celebration.

As the Soesdyke community eagerly looks forward to this annual tradition, the Cheddi Jagan International Airport aims to make this year’s event particularly meaningful by remembering and honoring the contributions of the servicemen who tragically lost their lives.

The CJIA Santa Parade and Christmas Village stand as a testament to the spirit of unity, celebration, and remembrance during the holiday season.
