Joint Declaration of Argyle: Guyana and Venezuela Commit to Dialogue and Peace

The Joint Declaration of Argyle, aimed at fostering dialogue and peace between Guyana and Venezuela, has been successfully reached.

Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Pro-Tempore President of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, read the statement that outlines eleven immediate and 90-day steps to prevent tensions from escalating between the two nations.

Dr. Gonsalves emphasized the commitment of both Guyana and Venezuela to engage in dialogue and pursue peaceful resolutions.

The statement highlights that in the event of any incident, the two states will promptly communicate with each other, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), CELAC, and the President of Brazil.

This communication aims to contain, reverse, and prevent the recurrence of any potential conflict.

The Joint Declaration also mentions the establishment of a joint commission between Guyana and Venezuela.

This commission will play a crucial role in addressing and resolving issues that may arise between the two countries.
