Guyana Mourns Fallen Soldiers in Helicopter Crash

Guyana bid farewell to four more soldiers who lost their lives in a recent helicopter crash, following a previous ceremony for the late Michael Charles.

The first of the four ceremonies was held for Colonel Michael Shahoud at the Brickdam Cathedral, where President Dr. Irfaan Ali paid tribute to the fallen hero.

Colonel Michael Shahoud is remembered as a national hero, a formidable soldier, a strong leader, and a devoted father.

President Ali expressed the nation’s ongoing mourning for the loss of five outstanding servicemen, highlighting Shahoud’s dedication, honour, resourcefulness, and loyalty to his country.

The late Colonel leaves behind his mother, wife, and son.

President Ali assured that Shahoud’s son would grow up knowing that his father was nothing short of a superhero.

He pledged to ensure that Shahoud is remembered and celebrated as a superhero, expressing gratitude and love for the fallen soldier.

Emphasizing Shahoud’s qualities of loyalty, humility, and commitment to nationhood, President Ali described him as a tower of strength and a reinforcing shoulder.

He noted that although Shahoud is no longer in body, his legacy will live on in the hearts of Guyanese and in the annals of the nation’s history as a fallen hero who defended the motherland.

Colonel Michael Shahoud, with a Bachelor of Laws degree, served in commanding positions of the Special Forces Squadron, Infantry Battalion, and Coast Guard.

The ceremony marked the first of four homegoing services for the remaining fallen servicemen.
