Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo reassured citizens that the government is actively working at the diplomatic and defense levels to safeguard investments in the Essequibo region.
Despite threats from Venezuela, the Vice President emphasized that there would be no pause in Guyana’s oil development.
Maduro’s announcement of plans to set up a temporary government in Guyana’s Essequibo and the order for mining and oil companies to leave within three months prompted this response from Vice President Jagdeo.
He acknowledged the seriousness of these threats but asserted that Guyana’s oil development would continue without interruption.
Responding to concerns about potential impacts on foreign direct investments and the local economy due to Venezuela’s aggression following the referendum, Vice President Jagdeo expressed confidence.
He stated that discussions with the local private sector revealed no significant reasons for concern.
While affirming Guyana’s readiness for any eventuality, he emphasized that specific measures would not be publicized unless deemed necessary.
Additionally, Vice President Jagdeo highlighted the bolstering of defense cooperation, but the government would not disclose specific actions taken to counter potential invasions from Venezuela.
