Guyana’s President Leads Delegation to COP28, Focusing on Climate Financing and Low Carbon Development

President Irfaan Ali is leading a delegation from Guyana at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of Parties (COP) 28.

The conference, scheduled from November 30 to December 12, will see Guyana pushing for climate financing, forest incentives, and showcasing its Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS).

As part of its efforts, Guyana will co-chair the group of forested countries in the Commonwealth, providing guidance on environmental matters.

President Ali, during a recent press conference, announced that Guyana will have a pavilion at the conference, where it will share its development model and strategy.

President Irfaan Ali emphasized that Guyana’s leadership in the areas of forest, environment, and climate change is internationally recognized and celebrated.

He credited the success to the government’s pursuit of the Low Carbon Development Strategy.

The Guyanese delegation includes Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo and other government officials.

The conference begins on November 30, and President Ali is expected to return on December 2.
