Attorney General Anil Nandlall expressed the government’s hope that the International Court of Justice (ICJ) would deliver its ruling before the planned December 3 referendum in Venezuela.
Nandlall assured that the ICJ has an enforcement body capable of administering its judgment.
Amid the Guyana-Venezuela border controversy, Nandlall emphasized the unity of the Government and Opposition on matters of territorial integrity.
He expressed optimism about receiving the ICJ ruling before December 3, considering the nature of the ongoing hearing.
Despite various speculations, Nandlall reiterated that the ICJ possesses the authority to enforce its judgments.
He highlighted that Guyana has secured the support of all countries in the hemisphere, except Nicaragua, regarding the border issue.
While Guyana does not oppose the scheduled referendum in Venezuela, it objects to questions 3 and 5, aiming to repudiate the ICJ’s jurisdiction and set the stage for the annexation of Guyana’s Essequibo region.
