The Cricket West Indies (CWI) Senior Men’s Selection Panel has unveiled a 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match CG United One-Day International (ODI) Series against England next month.
Shai Hope will lead the team, with Alzarri Joseph appointed as the vice-captain.
Notably, four Guyanese players, including the hard-hitting Sherfane Rutherford, have earned spots in the squad.
Sherfane Rutherford, a dynamic Guyanese batting all-rounder, has finally received a well-deserved call-up after consistently impressing selectors.
According to Desmond Haynes, a member of the selection panel, Rutherford’s time has come, marking an exciting development for West Indies cricket.
Joining Rutherford in the squad are Shimron Hetmyer, spinner Gudakesh Motie, and bowling all-rounder Romario Shepherd.
However, the exclusion of Trinidad and Tobago’s Darren Bravo has raised eyebrows, especially considering Bravo’s impressive batting form throughout the current season.
The CG United ODI Series against England will kick off with two matches at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on Sunday, December 3.
The squad also includes Alick Athanaze, Yannic Cariah, Keacy Carty, Roston Chase, Brandon King, Shane Dowrich, Kjorn Ottley, Matthew Forde, and Oshane Thomas.
Notably absent from the squad are Nicholas Pooran and Jason Holder, who opted to focus on the T20I and test formats.
