In a stunning display of athletic prowess, Guyana’s track and field team has taken center stage at the Inter-Guiana Games, securing an impressive collection of medals and solidifying their dominance in the competition.
Following a remarkable performance on the opening day, where they amassed 21 medals, including 11 golds, Guyana continued to shine on day two, clinching an additional 24 medals, with an impressive 13 golds.
Individual triumphs included Tiana Springer’s victory in the women’s 200 meters, clocking an impressive 25.40 seconds, and Ezekiel Newton’s first-place finish in the boys’ 200 meters.
The girls’ 3000 meters saw Esther McKinnon taking the gold, while in the 5000 meters, Suriname’s Isiah Jacott claimed the top position.
In the relay events, Guyana dominated, securing gold in both the 4×400 girls’ and boys’ categories.
Marissa Thomas clinched gold in the girls’ 800 meters, with Joanna Anthon securing second place. In the boys’ 800 meters, Javon Roberts and Kaidon Persaud claimed the top two positions.
Zeryssa McRae and Immanuel Adams excelled in the high jump, securing gold in the girls’ and boys’ categories, respectively.
The impressive individual achievements continued with Krystal Morris earning silver in the girls’ triple jump, and Rodel Greene and Marcus Roberts claiming gold and second place in the boys’ triple jump.
Latifa James emerged victorious in the girls’ 13-18 discus throw, while Jamie Fraser and Jahem Henry secured gold and silver in the boys’ discus throw.
Kaidon Persaud dominated the boys’ 13-17 javelin throw on day one, securing gold with a throw of 49.13 meters.
In the girls’ javelin throw of the same age category, Sheneque Holder and Tamara Mingo secured silver and bronze behind their French Guiana counterpart.
Immanuel Adam claimed first place in the boys’ 13-18 long jump, adding to Guyana’s impressive medal tally.
