The Guyanese government continues to fulfill its commitment to comprehensive infrastructural development, with a significant investment of over $1 billion in road infrastructure improvement in Region Five.
Contracts for the construction of 25 roads were recently signed in a ceremony at the Region 5 Regional Democratic Council building.
Minister of Public Works, Hon. Juan Edghill, addressed the gathering and emphasized the collaborative approach adopted for these projects.
The construction of the 25 roads will be undertaken by 21 contractors, marking a concerted effort to accelerate progress by having multiple projects underway simultaneously.
Minister Edghill highlighted the employment opportunities generated by this strategy, as well as its potential for timely project completion.
Speaking to the contractors, Minister Edghill urged them to adhere to high standards and use approved materials in the execution of the roadworks.
He set a target for the completion of the projects by December 15, emphasizing the importance of proper planning and execution.
The Minister of Public Works provided insights into the broader government initiative, revealing that over the last two months, approximately 700 roads have been advertised for construction across various regions in the country.
Region 6 is slated for 287 roads, Region 10 for 62, Essequibo for 33, the East Coast of Demerara for 220, and the East Bank of Demerara for 100.
This substantial investment in road infrastructure underscores the government’s commitment to improving connectivity, enhancing transportation networks, and stimulating economic development in the targeted regions.
