Government Initiates Educational Campaign on Guyana/Venezuela Border Controversy

In a concerted effort to raise awareness and educate the public about the longstanding Guyana/Venezuela border controversy, the Ministries of Education and Foreign Affairs have embarked on a comprehensive campaign to produce informative content for widespread dissemination.

As part of this educational drive, Public Communications Consultant Christopher Nascimento, who is spearheading the project, revealed that content detailing the intricacies of the border dispute is being created for print purposes.

Every school across the nation will soon have access to this information, ensuring that students gain a vivid understanding of the historical context and significance of the issue.

Dr. Randy Show emphasized the importance of this project, stating, “We are in the process now to achieve exactly that.”

The goal is to equip citizens, especially the younger generation, with comprehensive knowledge about the threat posed to Guyana’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the overall well-being of its people.

Nascimento stressed the urgency for Guyanese citizens to unite and actively defend Essequibo, the region contested by Venezuela.

As part of the awareness campaign, citizens are encouraged to obtain pamphlets and stickers bearing the message “Essequibo belongs to Guyana.”

These materials are being distributed widely to foster a collective sense of ownership and pride in Guyana’s territory.

“These are being distributed as widely as we possibly can,” Nascimento affirmed.

He urged everyone with a vehicle to proudly display the bumper sticker, emphasizing the importance of a unified stance.

To maximize the reach of this educational content, Nascimento revealed that the information from the pamphlets will also be published in Guyana’s daily newspapers.

This strategic move aims to ensure that a broader audience, beyond the school community, gains access to valuable insights into the border controversy.

The initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to fostering a sense of national identity and pride, emphasizing the importance of citizens actively engaging with and understanding the historical challenges faced by the nation.
