Archibald Falls Short in the Men’s 200-Meter Finals at Pan American Games

Guyanese Olympic sprinter, Emmanuel Archibald, faced a disappointing outcome in the men’s 200-meter finals at the Pan American Games in Chile.

Despite a promising start, Archibald was unable to secure a medal.

After a commendable performance in the semi-finals, where he ran a solid 21.08 for third place in his heat, Archibald seemed poised for success.

His return to the 200-meter discipline after focusing on jumps in recent years had shown promise, with a personal best time of 20.69 in July.

However, in the final race, Archibald’s momentum waned after about 130 meters, ultimately finishing in 8th place.

Reflecting on the race, Archibald expressed gratitude for reaching the final but admitted to running out of steam.

He acknowledged his ambitious spirit but recognized the physical challenges he faced.

Looking ahead, Archibald plans to return home in the coming weeks and resume his focus on long jumping.

In an earlier event, Archibald secured the bronze medal in the men’s 100-meter race, facing tough competition from athletes he had defeated for CAC gold earlier in the year.

The Dominican Republic’s Jose Gonzalez took first place with a time of 10.30 seconds, closely followed by Felipe Bardi of Brazil with an identical time of 10.31 seconds, just ahead of Archibald.

Despite the outcome, Archibald’s determination and accomplishments in the Pan American Games reflect his ongoing dedication to the sport.
