New Diamond Health Centre Enhances Healthcare Access for 40,000 Residents

In a significant milestone for the community, a state-of-the-art health centre has been inaugurated in Diamond, East Bank Demerara, with the aim of providing enhanced access to primary healthcare services.

Minister Dr. Frank Anthony lauded the opening of the new facility as a testament to the government’s steadfast commitment to bolstering the healthcare sector.

The Diamond Health Centre, with a construction contract valued at $78 million, was initiated under the previous administration but left incomplete.

Now, it stands fully operational, poised to serve approximately 40,000 residents in the Diamond/Grove district.

The modern facility boasts a range of amenities, including examination rooms, patient care and consultancy services, a minor surgery room, a pharmacy, and a compact laboratory.

Dr. Anthony emphasized that the centre will offer a wide array of services catering to mothers, children, and adults, encompassing antenatal care and various healthcare provisions.

Dr. Anthony further highlighted the need for increased educational outreach, advocating for a more proactive approach to self-health and healthier lifestyles.

He expressed hope that the new health centre will serve as a hub for informative sessions and counseling, fostering a culture of well-being within the community.

In a broader context, the PPP administration has allocated approximately $300 million between 2022 and 2023 for the comprehensive enhancement of healthcare infrastructure in the region.

This encompasses the development of regional hospitals, upgraded primary and specialized healthcare services, and comprehensive training programs for healthcare professionals, among other initiatives.
