Guyana Surpasses SDG Five Goal for Gender Equality, Affirms President Ali

Guyana has exceeded the 2030 Women and Gender Equality (SDG 5) targets, marking a significant milestone on the path to achieving comprehensive gender parity by 2050.

President Dr. Irfaan Ali made this announcement during the commencement of the Ministerial Forum on Gender Equality and Empowerment.

The accomplishment can be attributed to the government’s unwavering emphasis on technical education for women, substantial investments in the Women’s Innovation Network (WIN), and Board of Industrial Training initiatives.

Additionally, legislative frameworks have been redefined to create an enabling environment for gender equality.

President Ali reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting, empowering, and facilitating opportunities for women to excel in high-impact sectors and positions of leadership.

He emphasized that women’s active participation in upholding democratic values, justice, peace, and security is essential for Guyana’s continued progress and prosperity.

Furthermore, President Ali stressed that the endeavor to identify and eliminate barriers to gender equality must persist in order to address emerging contemporary challenges.

He urged forum delegates to formulate policies and systems that cater to this imperative objective.

The forum is being conducted under the theme “Shared experiences towards developing robust national and regional models for the 2030 Agenda.”

Over the course of three days, participants will exchange insights and strategies for advancing gender equality and empowerment at both national and regional levels.
