Successful Farmers’ Market Wraps Up Agriculture Month in Region 10

Republic Avenue in Linden transformed into a bustling farmers’ market as the Regional Agriculture Department held the event, marking the culmination of Agriculture Month activities in Region 10.

The market served a triple purpose: to alleviate the financial burden on consumers amidst rising living costs, support local farmers, and maintain controlled prices for agricultural products.

Hon. Kwame McCoy, Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister, underscored the importance of the farmers’ market, emphasizing its role in benefiting ordinary citizens, especially in the current economic climate.

Local vendors expressed their appreciation for the initiative, highlighting the convenience of having a diverse array of fresh produce and goods all in one accessible location.

Evelyn Allicock, a vendor, shared her enjoyment of the market, emphasizing the positive impact it has on both vendors and consumers.

Janelle Pollydore, another vendor, praised the initiative, emphasizing its role in educating the public about locally sourced products.

Aubrey Roberts echoed this sentiment, stating that the farmers’ market is an excellent idea that supports the broader market.

Uranie Hansraj, a vendor, highlighted the significance of the initiative in expanding market access and providing a platform for vendors to showcase their products.

The farmers’ market received support from various agricultural entities, including the National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (NAREI), the Guyana Marketing Corporation, Guyana School of Agriculture, Guyana Livestock Development Authority, and the Fisheries Department under the Ministry of Agriculture.

The event served as a testament to the collaborative efforts of the agriculture sector in Region 10, demonstrating a commitment to supporting local farmers and promoting agricultural sustainability.
