Optimism Despite Challenges: National Coach Baksh Reflects on Pan-Am Performance

National coach Sean Baksh, who led the Guyana swim team at the ongoing Pan American Games, expressed satisfaction with the athletes’ performance.

Despite falling short of qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympics, Baksh believes the team’s effort has been commendable.

According to Baksh, the athletes’ rigorous training regimen is the cornerstone of their progress.

Baksh affirmed that the swimmers are on the right track and have the potential for further growth and development.

However, he emphasized the need for more resources and support to help them reach their goals.

Olympian Aleka Persaud showcased notable performances, securing second place in the 100-meter freestyle and setting a new national record in the 100m butterfly.

Raekwon Noel, a Carifta multiple gold medalist, demonstrated his prowess in various heats.

While Noel secured a spot in the finals for the men’s 400-meter freestyle, he finished 7th in the B final.

Additionally, he participated in the 800-meter freestyle heat, although he did not advance to the final round.

Despite the challenges, Baksh’s positive outlook underscores the potential within Guyana’s swim team.
