In a commitment to bolstering the healthcare system, the Ministry of Health affirms its dedication to continuous training for Allied Health Professionals.
This assurance was delivered by Oversight Minister, Dr. Frank Anthony, during a seminar held to commemorate World Allied Health Professions Day.
At the inaugural Allied Health Professional Seminar, Dr. Anthony underscored the significance of training across various healthcare domains.
This includes Medical Sonographers, CT Scan Technicians, Health Care Administrators, Physicians, and Biomedical Engineers.
Dr. Anthony addressed the pressing need for adequately trained professionals, particularly in the realm of CT scans, which are crucial for diagnosis in modern healthcare.
He highlighted the intention to introduce a new course in ultrasound, aiming to equip technicians with the high-level skills necessary to conduct these critical procedures.
The Oversight Minister emphasized that investment in cutting-edge hospital equipment is only as effective as the proficiency of the personnel operating and managing it.
To bridge this gap, the Ministry is currently engaged in training 40 biomedical engineers in collaboration with the United Kingdom.
Dr. Anthony also pointed out the importance of equipment maintenance to ensure their sustained functionality, emphasizing that neglect in this area results in wastage of resources.
As Guyana’s healthcare landscape continues to evolve, the Health Minister highlighted the interconnectedness of various categories of Allied workers. He stressed that as the sector develops, continuous education for allied health professionals is paramount in providing top-tier care to patients.
