In the past week, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) has documented more than 2,000 traffic cases, according to Traffic Chief, Senior Superintendent Mahendra Singh.
He provided this update while addressing efforts to combat reckless driving and enhance road safety.
The Traffic Chief emphasized that a primary focus is on reducing the frequency of traffic offenses reported on a weekly basis.
This is being achieved through rigorous enforcement of traffic laws and continuous educational campaigns aimed at instilling a greater awareness of road rules and regulations, ultimately aiming to decrease the loss of lives due to road accidents.
Sergeant Richard Trotz further highlighted ongoing educational initiatives, stating, “We are seeing results because persons are approaching the traffic department to request lectures for drivers, particularly those employed in larger organizations like GTT, as well as local businesses. For example, after the accident in the Essequibo coast involving a truck, we conducted a lecture for the organization, stressing the importance of safe road usage, proper vehicle maintenance, and ensuring drivers use the road safely at all times.”
These combined efforts underscore the commitment of the GPF to address reckless driving and promote road safety, with a view to creating safer roadways for all citizens.
