2nd ODI WI-W vs AUSTRALIA: Match Abandoned Due to Rain

The second One Day International between the West Indies women and Australia met an untimely end as rain played spoilsport at the Junction Oval in Melbourne, Australia.

The match, which had already experienced delays due to rain, was further curtailed to 29 overs per side.

When play was abruptly halted after a second heavy downpour, the West Indies, sent in to bat, had reached a total of 107 for 8 in 25.3 overs.

Aaliyah Alleyne (28), Rashada Williams (23), and Skipper Hayley Matthews (20) were the leading run-scorers.

Annabel Sutherland and Alana King shone with the ball, each claiming three wickets for the Aussies.

With this abandonment, Australia retains their lead of one-nil in the series, heading into the final game scheduled for Friday.

While expressing disappointment over the match’s outcome, West Indies women captain Hayley Matthews affirmed that the Caribbean team is determined to elevate their performance in the third ODI.

Matthews acknowledged a few positives from the match but emphasized the need for further improvement before the final clash.

The third ODI is set to kick off at 19:05 on Friday, October 13.
