Demerara Clinches GCB 50 Over Inter-County Title

In a thrilling match at GCC ground Bourda, Demerara clinched the Guyana Cricket Board 50 Overs inter-county title, defending a low score against Berbice.

Ronaldo Ali Mohamed’s stellar bowling performance played a crucial role in this victory.

Demerara started their innings on a shaky note, losing key batsman Tagenarine Chanderpaul early.

Although Chanderpaul Hemraj and skipper Tevin Imlach contributed with scores of 29 and 39 respectively, the innings struggled to gain momentum.

Richie Looknauth’s unbeaten 52 off 50 balls provided a much-needed boost to the total.

Berbice’s Kevin Sinclair was impressive with the ball, taking 4 for 31, while Romario Shepherd chipped in with two wickets, helping to dismiss Demerara for 194.

In the chase, Berbice faced challenges as Kevin Sinclair, Nigel Deodat, and Clinton Pestano fell early.

Shimron Hetmyer (25) and Kevlon Anderson (40) steadied the innings, but once they were dismissed, the momentum shifted.

Sherfane Rutherford and Ronaldo Ali Mohamed led the Demerara bowling attack, dismantling Berbice’s middle and lower order.

Berbice fell short by 69 runs, giving Demerara a well-deserved victory.

Rutherford ended with figures of 2 for 35, while Ali-Mohamed’s remarkable performance earned him 4 for 47.

Steven Sankar, Qumar Torrington, and Banerd Bailey also contributed with a wicket each.

This victory marks Demerara’s success in the GCB 50 Over Inter-County tournament, leaving defending champions Berbice empty-handed.
