Corentyne Woman Shot in Alleged Domestic Dispute

A tragic incident unfolded in Corentyne, Berbice, as a 32-year-old woman, identified as Ashmin Mahadeo, was shot in the neck in an alleged domestic dispute.

The victim, who resides at Lot 25 D Williamsburg, Corentyne, is currently in critical condition.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:40 AM yesterday, as Ashmin and her fiancé were preparing to leave their residence.

Family members were startled by a loud gunshot, prompting them to investigate.

They found Ashmin lying at the gate, bleeding from her mouth.

Ashmin’s brother, Naresh Mahadeo, described the frantic scene, mentioning how he and his wife rushed to her aid. Naresh attempted to check the surroundings for any potential suspects while his wife administered first aid.

Ashmin’s fiancé promptly returned to the house and informed other relatives about the distressing incident.

Naresh Mahadeo recounted, “A rush and I go out, and my wife was she was right behind me.

So while she turns her over, I run out on the street, and I think I woulda see anybody because when I ask him, he said somebody shoot she but he go in the house. We took her to Port Mourant Hospital.”

Ashmin sustained a gunshot wound to the back of her neck, and the bullet subsequently exited, hitting an object in the family’s yard.

Law enforcement later discovered an unlicensed firearm concealed in the victim’s bedroom. The fiancé, employed as an engineer with the Ministry of Agriculture, has been apprehended.

The couple had been in a common-law relationship for seven years.

Investigations into the incident are currently underway.
