Government Vigilant on Linden-Mabura Road Project

Concerns have emerged over potential delays in the Linden to Mabura road project, according to Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill.

The contractor had committed to completing the first 10 kilometers by the end of September, which may now be in jeopardy due to the timeline.

Minister Edghill revealed that preparations to apply asphalt on the initial section were underway. However, meeting the original target might be challenging given the time constraints.

The first phase of the project involves upgrading the existing alignment to Asphaltic Concrete Surface with two lanes, spanning approximately 122 kilometers.

It also encompasses the incorporation of five drainage structures. Constructora Queiroz S.A. was awarded the project after being selected as the most responsive bidder by the Caribbean Development Bank.

Funding for the road comes from the Government of Guyana, the Caribbean Development Bank, and the United Kingdom, totaling US$190 million.

Minister Edghill emphasized the contractor’s obligation to fulfill the terms of the contract, emphasizing that any delays must be compensated for with increased work efforts.

The development of this all-weather road is anticipated to enhance trade and commerce while unlocking extensive opportunities in connecting Guyana with Brazil.

It is a vital component of the government’s comprehensive transport infrastructure integrated development plan.
