The Mexican Embassy in Georgetown marked Mexico’s 213th Independence Anniversary with a splendid display of Mexican culture, featuring dance, cuisine, and art at the Marriott Hotel.
Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill, who is performing the duties of Prime Minister, underscored the importance of strengthening collaboration between Guyana and Mexico.
He emphasized the potential for deeper cooperation in trade, economic activities, agriculture, and human resource development, aligning with Guyana’s growth trajectory and the need for skilled professionals to complement the local labor force.
Minister Edghill further encouraged Mexican companies and the private sector to explore investment opportunities in Guyana.
Mexican Ambassador to Guyana, Mauricio Vizcaíno Crespo, expressed pride in the growing bilateral economic ties, highlighting the imminent launch of the Mexico-Guyana Chamber of Commerce. This platform will provide companies and entrepreneurs from both nations an ideal space to conduct business, creating mutual value for their societies.
The celebration also marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Guyana and Mexico. Mexico’s independence in 1821, following a revolutionary civil war against Spanish colonists, is a significant milestone in their history.
