Commissioning of De Willem Secondary School

The newly commissioned De Willem Secondary School is set to welcome 127 students from the Saraswat Primary Top.

Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand, highlighted that this addition will significantly increase the region’s capacity to accommodate students.

During the commissioning, Minister Manickchand emphasized that the new school, originally intended as an extension, will now operate as a separate entity with its own head teacher and staff. Efforts are underway to refurbish and equip the labs to ensure a high standard of education. The De Willem Secondary School will now be able to accommodate 350 students, providing a level of access that the region has not had before.

Constructed by local contractors at a cost of $93 million, the school represents a significant investment in education. The Saraswat Primary Top will remain open, and its 127 students will transition to the new facility starting Monday.

Keith Sampson, Headmaster of the Uitvlugt Secondary School, praised the visionary approach of the Ministry of Education and the contractors. He emphasized that the building’s potential has been fully realized, offering renewed purpose and hope for the future.

Additionally, Minister Manickchand announced plans for new secondary schools in Crane, Tuschen, and Nismes to further address the educational needs of the region.

This development signifies a major stride towards enhanced educational access and quality in the region.
