Government Invests in X-ray Machines for Region Six Hospitals

The Government of Guyana has allocated over 196 million dollars for the acquisition of digital X-ray machines in three hospitals within Region Six. These modern machines were officially commissioned on Thursday. Rotan Abrams has the details.

The newly installed digital X-ray machines are now operational at the Mibicuri, Port Mourant, and New Amsterdam Hospitals. These machines are fully computerized, eliminating the need for traditional film usage, as seen with analog machines.

Out of the total investment of 196 million dollars, 132 million was allocated for the procurement of the three X-ray machines, while the remaining funds were utilized to retrofit the respective hospital rooms to accommodate the new equipment.

Dr. Frank Anthony, the Minister of Health, explained the advantages of these digital systems, saying, “We are able to input patient information, take the image, and store it in the computer. Furthermore, these images can be easily shared among the responsible doctors, facilitating a more precise diagnosis.”

Regional Chairman David Armogan expressed his appreciation for the investment and urged the hospital staff to utilize the new equipment effectively and in accordance with best practices.

During his visit to the region, Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony conducted inspections of the Neonatal Department at the New Amsterdam Hospital and the Port Mourant Ophthalmology Department, ensuring that the services provided meet the Ministry’s established standards.
