Althea Brown, the ‘Metemgee Lady’, Unveils ‘Caribbean Paleo’ Cookbook

Chef Althea Brown, popularly known as the ‘Metemgee Lady’, launched her highly anticipated cookbook, ‘Caribbean Paleo’, at the Herdmanston Lodge in Queenstown, Guyana, earlier today.

The book features 75 delectable recipes paying homage to the culinary traditions of Guyana, as well as other Caribbean islands like Trinidad & Tobago and Jamaica. These recipes, which prioritize non-processed, dietary-conscious ingredients, have been passed down through generations and took Brown nearly a year to compile.

Attendees at the launch expressed their excitement and pride in Althea Brown’s culinary achievements. Deslyn Griffith shared her admiration for Brown’s ability to adapt traditional Guyanese dishes to fit the paleo diet. Nicolette Fernandes expressed her pride in Althea’s accomplishments, while Andrea Bryan Garner found one of the recipes particularly intriguing – hot and sticky wings made with tamarind.

Brown emphasized that her culinary twists aim to inspire creativity through food while prioritizing health consciousness. She also shared her experiences with budding chefs and nutritionists, stressing the importance of looking at traditional recipes with fresh, health-focused perspectives.

Looking ahead, Althea Brown hinted at the possibility of a baking recipe book in the future.

The cookbook has received an overwhelming response from her audience. ‘Caribbean Paleo’ has quickly risen to become the #1 selling culinary book on Amazon since its release and can also be found on the shelves of prominent bookstores, including Barnes and Noble.

Additionally, signed copies of the book were generously donated to The National Library, the National Archives, and The Bishops’ High School – her alma mater.

Althea Brown is scheduled to embark on a book tour upon her return to the United States, with stops in cities such as Atlanta, Denver, Houston, Washington, and New York, among others.
