Ministry of Health Signs Contract for New Hospital in New Amsterdam

The Ministry of Health has taken a significant step towards enhancing healthcare services in Guyana by signing a contract for the construction of a state-of-the-art hospital in New Amsterdam, Region Six.

Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony emphasized that the upcoming facility will be on par with the paediatric hospital currently in progress at Ogle, East Coast Demerara. This development reflects the government’s dedication to providing world-class medical care across the nation.

In a noteworthy revelation, it was announced that the historic 154-year-old Berbice Psychiatric Hospital will eventually close its doors, as the new facility will include a dedicated section for psychiatric patients. Additionally, plans are underway to construct a two-storey building in the region with the specific aim of bolstering medical training. This initiative will facilitate the education and training of more doctors, nurses, and various other healthcare professionals, ultimately strengthening the healthcare workforce.
