President Ali Inaugurates Mandela to Eccles Highway and Haags Bosch Roundabout

Over the weekend, President Dr. Irfaan Ali officially opened the Mandela to Eccles Highway and Haags Bosch Junction Roundabout. This newly constructed highway not only serves to alleviate traffic congestion along the East Bank corridor but also proudly features one of the symbols depicted in Guyana’s coat of arms – the Golden Jaguar encircled by a water fountain.

Equipped with state-of-the-art security measures, including security towers and traffic monitors, the Mandela to Eccles Highway and Haags Bosch Junction Roundabout will automatically penalize traffic law violators.

This junction represents the completion of the second phase of the new East Bank Demerara four-lane highway project, extending from Mandela Avenue and, ultimately, to the Linden-Soesdyke Highway. The initial phase of the road project, spanning from Eccles to Mandela, was inaugurated in April 2022, at a cost of 2.3 billion dollars. Subsequently, contracts totaling 13.3 billion dollars were awarded to extend the road from Eccles to Diamond.

President Irfaan Ali expressed eagerness for the full realization of this transformative highway project, emphasizing its significance in positioning Guyana for further development.

Additionally, President Ali noted that the Roundabout’s inauguration was timed to coincide with the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) games. Alongside the roundabout’s opening, a mobile containerized Police outpost was also commissioned.

Dr. Ali underscored that this outpost is a pivotal component of enhancing the country’s security infrastructure, aligning with broader efforts to modernize the nation and shape a forward-thinking collective mindset.
