In a joint effort, ExxonMobil and Family Awareness Consciousness Together (FACT), a local non-governmental organization, hosted a summer camp that benefited over 100 children and adolescents in Corriverton, Berbice.

The program, which received a generous contribution of $30 million, focused on empowering the youth through various subjects, including science, robotics, and mathematics.

She noted that STEM education is a primary focus for ExxonMobil, making this partnership with FACT a significant milestone for the company.

“This is our first time partnering with FACT, and we contributed towards the STEM after-school program because, as you know, STEM education is one of our focus areas for Exxon. So, it’s very important for youth development and education-wise, so I’m happy,” De Abreu stated.

She was pleasantly surprised by the outcome, as the number of beneficiaries surpassed the initial proposal.

“When we started to speak with FACT about this proposal, she came to us for funding for 80 students, but I was really happy to see that 115 are graduating today, so more students get to benefit from the funding that we provided,” De Abreu added.

Executive Director of FACT, Annette Jaundoo, conveyed her gratitude to ExxonMobil for their unwavering support in molding the future generation.

She emphasized the significance of the program in shaping the lives of children and adolescents.

“Exxon partnered with us to help us so that we can mold our children, which are our future, and I am happy and privileged to be part of this partnership. The funding will continue in September, and we will have the next round of funding so that more children can access the service,” said Jaundoo.

The summer camp provided an enriching learning experience for the participants, covering various subjects to broaden their horizons. After successfully completing the program, the children were honored with a graduation ceremony, where they received special recognition and school supplies to further support their educational journey.

The collaboration between ExxonMobil and FACT has proved to be a significant step towards empowering the youth of Corriverton, Berbice.

The $30 million contribution and the emphasis on STEM education have enabled the children to gain valuable skills and knowledge, promising a brighter future for the community.

As the program concludes, the impact of ExxonMobil and FACT’s joint initiative remains evident, with the hope that it will continue to inspire and empower more young minds in the years to come.
