Participants of the recently concluded Speaker’s National Youth Debating competition have been offered apprenticeship opportunities to further nurture their talents and skills.
The apprenticeship program was announced by Hon. Charles Ramson, Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sport, during the competition’s closing ceremony and awards.
Impressed by the outstanding performances and enthusiasm demonstrated by the participants, Minister Ramson expressed his willingness to extend apprenticeship, mentorship, and volunteer service opportunities to anyone interested.
He encouraged the young debaters to step forward and seize these opportunities to develop and excel in their chosen fields.
The dedication, bravery, and performances of the debaters were highly praised by several Members of Parliament and the Speaker of the House, Manzoor Nadir.
Among the participants, Corrisa McClure was recognized as the overall best speaker of the competition, receiving accolades for her exceptional abilities.
The Young Influencers Youth Group, participating for the first time, emerged as the winners of the competition. They achieved victory over last year’s champions, the Golden OM Dharamic Youth Organization, by arguing the moot “CARICOM’s biggest achievements are exemptions and excuses.”
Eight teams from the Speaker’s Debating Competition will advance to the National Youth Parliament, which is scheduled to take place next month.
The competition has provided an important platform for young talents to showcase their skills, and the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport aims to continue fostering the growth and success of Guyana’s youth through such initiatives.
